Okay, he’s no Song Joong Ki, BUT… I’m really excited about this casting, nevertheless! (Sorry, Joong Ki!)
Actor Kim Soo Hyun (Dream High) is cast as the lead in the upcoming “fantasy romance sageuk” (no joke, that’s the supposed genre) drama The Moon That Embraces the Sun. He will immediately join production as soon as he wraps up filming for his blockbuster film, Thieves.
In The Moon That Embraces the Sun, Kim Soo Hyun will play the role of Yi Hwon, a young fictional king who falls in epic love with a female shaman. From a bright and intelligent crown prince, Yi Hwon grows up and develops into a young king who dreams of a major reformation for his Joseon. Child actor Yeo Jin Goo (Giant, Warrior Baek Dong-soo) has been cast to play his younger counterpart.
According to a representative from Pan Entertainment, the production company behind The Moon That Embraces the Sun, “Kim Soo Hyun was cast because he best matched Yi Hwon’s character among the young male actors in his age group.”
Directed by Kim Do Hoon (Spotlight, Royal Family) and penned by Jin Soo Wan (Wonderful Life, Capital Scandal), The Moon That Embraces the Sun is highly anticipated because it is based on a bestselling novel by Jung Eun Gweol, the author of another bestseller that was successfully adapted into the 2010 hit drama, Sungkyunkwan Scandal.
Actress Han Ga In (Bad Guy) has been rumored to play the shaman and Yi Hwon’s love interest, but her casting has not been confirmed yet. It will be interesting to see how Kim Soo Hyun’s casting decision affects the casting for the female lead because I do think he would look too young for Han.
The Moon That Embraces the Sun looks to a premiere in early 2012 on MBC to take over its Wednesday-Thursday time slot.

I think he would look to young for Han Ga In too. Han Groo would have really looked great with him. Maybe someone like Kim So Eun? Who else? I can’t think of many actresses who suits him as far as youthful appearance, yet also fitting the character, who has a lot of feminine charm. Well, if Han Ga In is confirmed it’ll definitely be interesting. I’d watch it just to see what their chemistry will be like.

Yes! Kim So-eun would be awesome! But isn’t she already filming that weekend drama A Thousand Kiss or something? And Moon Geun-young is currently in New York City doing a semester abroad. I don’t really have anything against Han Ga-in, but she’s too old for Kim Soo-hyun.
I’m sad that Song Joong-ki didn’t get this role, but I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather him lose out to than Kim Soo-hyun. KSH has the acting chops to make this fantastic. I just hope they’ll find him a female lead worthy of him – Suzy tried hard, but let’s face it. KSH was heads and shoulders above her, and this time I’d like to see him play opposite someone who can hold her own.

Yay! You’re right, he’s no Song Joong-ki, but on the upside he’ll play the adult version and won’t disappear on us after 4 episodes. Plus more Kim Soo-hyun is always lovely in my book. I hope this will be good because I couldn’t get through Dream High (I know, me and one other person) despite my love for KSH.
I really hope they don’t end up casting Han Ga-in… I have nothing against her but she isn’t a great actress, besides being to old for KSH.
Yoon Eun-hye would be fun to see as his co-star. Except as much as I adore her, I have very little faith in her ability to pull off a sageuk. Hmm. Is Moon Geun-young doing anything these days?

I can’t for the life of me remember who asked about the Soredemo subs, was it you, Laica? If so, earthcolors finished off the subs for libra a while back. They should be available on d-addicts, if not give me a shout.
And I’m so sorry to be hijacking this thread but ohhh…. Laica…. Ohisama is… EPIC. Writing from the amazing Zeni Geba screenwriter is just… sublime, and beautiful performances from everyone. This is possibly the best war drama since Eyes of Dawn.
Back to the topic. Sungkyungkw…. whut?? So Yeo Jingu and Kim Soohyun finally come together in a new project and it’s kindergarten sageuk?
Aww… maaaaan! I’ll have to watch it. And can’t be any worse than Scream High anyway. I so yearn to see Kim Soo-hyun in a mature project again…
I actually don’t mind Han Ga-in. Though I can’t see them as romantic interests at all but let’s wait and see.

Ooh, really? They’re done? Thank you! *so excited* My mom and I were waiting for it to be complete so we could watch it in one go (it’s to preserve our mental health, you know).
Oh wow. Is Ohisama going to break my heart? Somehow I want the answer to be yes. What have you done to me, supah? I was an anti-melo person, but you’ve taken me to the dark side.
LOL @ Scream High. I thought I was the only one who wasn’t crazy in love with that show! I kept watching and waiting for it to get better, but… I just couldn’t see what everyone else was seeing in it. So I’m definitely going to check out this one.
P.S. I’m so sorry I haven’t replied to your email. Life has been super busy. I will soon though! <3

Will it break your heart, will it bre..? It will freakin’… anihilate you. Stock up on the tissues girl.
Though don’t be scared off by the writer, this is not as dark and murky as his ZG. He’s taken on a very different approach, very humane, very genteel and subtle. But still so devastating, as that era wasn’t one to taken lightly.
It’s kind of Grave of Fireflies except interlaced with some nice, organic happy moments and narrated Memoirs of a Geisha style. You’ll get what I mean when you see it.
Lots of hotties, Eita’s little brother Nagayana Kento, Kengo Kora… and more. But Shigeki-kun (Kento) is MIIINE!
Link to Soredemo subs, they’re not on d-addicts for some weird reason: http://earth-colors.dreamwidth.org/tag/drama+subs:+soredemo+ikite

Um, Grave of the Fireflies? That gave me nightmares. I’m still scarred from that and it was only an hour and a half long. It was beautiful though.
This definitely is a must-watch for me, although I think I’ll put it on the shelf until I’m in the mood for it. Real life is doing a good enough job of annihilating me all by itself lately.
Eita has a little brother who acts? Is he as good? It’s okay, you can have him. I’ll take Eita.
Speaking of which, I LOVE you for the link! Thanks a bunch!

LOVE this! I’d be even more happy if someone else instead of Han Ga In gets the female lead’cuz I feel like she doesn;t fit with him…they’re age difference isn;t actually that terrible but somehow after seeing her with the likes of Kim Nam Gil, I cant see her with someone as babyfaced as KSH

That aside..eeeeeep! Anything with KSH is fine, Han Ga In is a no-no, someone younger please ^^
Oh my, to think I would be hearing KSH’s sageuk, looking forward to 2012!

Kim Soo Hyun! I was wondering when I would get to see him in another drama
I pretty much agree with everyone else how Han Ga In (no matter how young she looks) looks much too old to be a romantic interest for him. Then again, maybe KSH can be styled to look older? Hmm…
Anyways, I can’t really say if the fantasy romance sageuk is a GOOD thing, but I’ll hope it does. It kind of reminds me of Bride of the Water God (manhwa), but I’ve only read like one chapter of that manhwa.
I just hope the drama is good <3 I think SKKS was good in the beginning until about episode 13 which was ehhh, but I still watched it all. I really want this to be good because it has KSH, but… yea I'm going to try to keep my expectations low

Jinx! My first thought when I read this news. LOL
Even more exciting is his child counterpart will be played by the kid who played the young Gangmo to his young Seungmo in Giant. Double yay! The bad news is no scene of them bromancing together again. Unless this drama pulls a Tree with Deep Roots flashback freakout scene. Heh.

Dream come true is what this is – been wishing for this so long it felt like a lifetime ago. Just wondering what took so long – only young actor who could star as a lead from the moment he opened his mouth. If he was ever in a drama or movie with joong ki or YAI, I would pass out. This drama could have been about alien zombies and I still would have watched it.
