The 48th Grand Bell (Daejong) Awards were held on the evening of October 17. And on this night, the two big winners were The Front Line and War of the Arrows.
As I look at the list of attendees and the winners, it came to me that Chungmuro is definitely going through a generational turnover. Gone are the days of the select few heavyweights being nominated and winning year after year. Instead, there are many newcomers trying to shake up the industry. But the big question is whether any one of them will be the next Choi Min Shik, Song Kang Ho, or Jeon Do Yeon of Chungmuro?

Introducing the MCs of the night…

Shin Hyun Joon (Cain and Abel) and Jang Seo Hee (OB/GYN) came in matching black.

Kim Ha Neul was the lady of the night, taking home the Best Actress award for Blind.

Best Actor winner, Park Hae Il (War of the Arrows), dressed all in black from head to toe. I can’t be the only one thinking that he’s channeling So Ji Sub, right?

My favorite Joseon king, Jo Sung Ha, was awarded with the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in The Yellow Sea. I admit I’m completely biased, but doesn’t he look adorable with his purple bow tie?

This year is really turning out to be Moon Chae Won’s breakthrough year. From The Princess’s Man in the small screen to War of the Arrows in the big screen, for which she won the Best New Actress award, Moon Chae Won is proving herself to be the 2011 sageuk princess.

Lee Je Hoon was nominated in the Best New Actor category for two films: The Front Line and Bleak Night. He took home the award for the latter.

The Korean media raved about how Mr. Popularity a.k.a. Won Bin (Ahjussi) shined on the red carpet. Umm, am I not seeing something that they’re seeing, or are they not seeing what I’m seeing? He has a toupée on his head! That, or it is a bird’s nest.

Kim Hye Soo (Villain & Widow) was nominated in the Best Actress category. I love how she exudes so much confidence. Look at that last pose. I call it the “I’m the boss” pose.

Best Actress nominee, Choi Kang Hee (Petty Romance), was one of the many actresses who wore red to this year’s Grand Bell Awards.

If gone wrong, Bae Jong Ok’s dress could have looked frumpy à la Miss Havisham. Instead, she managed to pull it off to look classy and elegant. Bae Jong Ok missed a Best Actress award for The Most Beautiful Farewell in the World.

Although he missed the Best Actor award for Phungsan Dog, Yoon Kye Sang gets my vote for the most radiant smile of the night! (Cheesy, I know.)

Best Actor nominee Kim Yoon Suk (The Yellow Sea) accompanied actress Park Hyo Joo (Killer K), his co-star from his latest film, Wandeuki.

Best Actor nominee Cha Tae Hyun (Hello Ghost) smiling for the camera.

The veteran actors Lee Soon Jae and Yoon So Jung were each nominated for I Love You in the Best Actor and the Best Actress categories, respectively.

Their co-star Kim Sumi was also nominated for I Love You, but in the Best Supporting Actress category…

…along with Jang Young Nam of Hello Ghost.
And now for the Best Supporting Actor nominees…

…Yoo Hae Jin (The Unjust)…

…and Go Chang Seok (The Showdown)…

…and Jo Hee Bong (Blind)…

…and Kim Sang Ho (Moby Dick)…
We thank you all!

Best New Actress nominee, Kang Sora (Sunny), was my favorite look of the night. Her short dress looked fun and cute, but most importantly, she genuinely looked excited to be at the event.

As did the charming Baek Jin Hee (Festival), also in a mini.

Co-stars Yoo Yeon Seok and Yoo Da In (Re-Encounter) were each nominated in the Best New Actor and the Best New Actress categories, respectively.

Last year’s Best New Actress winner, Lee Min Jung (Cyrano Dating Agency), came to the event wearing the ever-so-popular black.

As did Lee Hwa Sun (Sex is Zero 2).

The other popular color of the night was white, as shown on Kim Hye Jin (Comrades)…

…and Shin Hyun Bin (Warrior Baek Dong-soo).

I’m not sure what is the connection between Choi Daniel (Cyrano Dating Agency) and Seo Young Hee (Bedevilled) for them to be coming together. (I’m not aware of any projects they’ve done together in the past or they will be doing in the future.) But one thing is for sure. They look very GOOD together.

Jung Soo Young (Queen of Reversals)

Jung Woo (Dandelion Family)

Im Won Hee (Romantic Heaven)

I love the yellow (gold?) color on Lee Maeri’s (New Gisaeng Story) dress, but the cut of the dress in the tube top area seems off.

Kim Tae Hoon (You’re So Pretty)

Song Sae Byuk (Sector 7)

I. just. don’t. understand. what is going on with Yoon Ji Min’s (Warrior Baek Dong-soo) dress. And as for her hair, I have this mad urge to sweep it away from her face. It’s literally…. everywhere!

Is Kim Ji Woo (Marrying the Mafia 4) going for a mermaid look or an armor look? Or perhaps an armadillo look?

Lee Duk Hwa (Myung Wol the Spy)

Lifetime Achievement Award winner Lee Dae Geun looking like a boss.

Choi Daniel and Seo Young Hee were together because the are the face of this year’s Bell Awards. They were even co-presentors of two awards.
